Last week in sacrament I talked a little about happiness. These thoughts are still with me. It is very interesting where we try to find our happiness. There are a few places in the scriptures where it mentions people that are happy that I would like to reference. In Nephi’s account of coming to the promised land we all know he dealt with a lot. 8 years of traveling in the wilderness, having to deal with his brothers doubts, and having them want to take his life multiple times. Once they reached the promised land the Lord commanded Nephi to separate from his brothers. In 2 Nephi 5:27 it says “And it came to pass that we lived after the manner of happiness”. What a crazy past decade Nephi had and he know lived after the manner of happiness. 2nd Story; This story is found in Alma 50. This is the time of Captain Moroni. There had been many wars and more were coming. Yet in the middle of this there is vs 23 which says “But behold there never was a happier time among the people of Nephi, since the days of Nephi, than in the days of Morooni, yea even at this time”. In both of these experiences there was a lot of turmoil and fear. Nephi had just had to depart from some of his family. He had been beat, ridiculed, and mistreated by his brethren and had gone through some very difficult experiences, Moroni was leading an army into many different battles. He didn’t want to hurt anyone and had to see many of his men killed. Yet each of these men found happiness and joy because of the commandments they were keeping. They did what was right according to God and they were blessed for it. I know that no matter what situation we are all in personally that we can find peace and happiness as long as we keep the commandments of Jesus Christ and are true and faithful to our covenants. The last line of The Living Christ reads “ His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the wold to come. God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son."
